Medical Massage

Medical Massage (also known as Orthopedic Massage) is a style of massage therapy focused on treating painful conditions that affect the soft tissues of the body. Because Medical Massage is designed to treat medical conditions, it requires extensive post-graduate training and certification (as a Medical Massage Practitioner, or MMP, such as I received in 2014), and usually must be accompanied by a prescription and statement of medical necessity from a medical doctor, chiropractor or physical therapist in order to be covered by health insurance. It involves releasing tense muscles, helping to stretch and lengthen tight muscles and tendons, helping to encourage the healthy recovery of injured muscles and tendons and the decompression of rigid or inflamed joints. Unlike relaxation massages, which can be scheduled whenever the mood strikes, Medical Massage sessions are usually more closely scheduled in order to help the body to heal as quickly as possible, so you can get back to living your life on your terms! I created GentleDescent Deep by literally using myself as the "crash test dummy" for it, after experiencing a catastrophic wrist injury and reconstructive surgery that nearly ended my career before it began.
