knight drive, makaela. wed, july 3, 2013, doors: 8:00 pm / show: 9:00 pm, 19 broadway, fairfax, ca. this event is 21 and over. teal collins (the mother truckers) and barbara nesbitt (tim flannery & the lunatic fringe) met at a mutual friend’s gig in austin and decided to get together to sing a song or two. by the time they reached the first chorus they knew there was magic in the room. they wrote songs, added members to make it a 6-piece band, and in one year played their first show, and released their debut album. the band was offered a coveted residency at the famed continental club in austin, and they have been rocking it ever since. the whiskey sisters sound mixes melodic vocal harmonies, classic rock and roll guitar riffs, and a sing-a-long sense of celebration in each song! joined by austin veteran musicians, josh zee on guitar (the mother truckers), lonnie trevino, jr. on bass (the samoonlighters), phil bass on drums (monte montgomery), and michael davids on keyboards (cari hutson), they are going to take texas and the world by storm

Afrofunk Experience

fri, july 5, 2013, doors: 8:00 pm / show: 9:00 pm, 19 broadway, fairfax, ca. this event is 21 and over. 8 years ago, bassist wendell rand (afrolicious/pleasuremaker, tracorum, youssoupha sidibe) along with singer victor sila mutungi, started sila and the afrofunk experience (safe) as a world music ensemble, working in local clubs, but eventually playing many notable festivals like earthdance and san francisco's annual stern grove festival. safe were also winners of the naacp image award for outstanding world music album: "black president" in 2009. after an decision to part with sila, afe transformed itself into the funk music powerhouse that now tours the west coast of the united states. the musicians: guitarist david james (spearhead, the coup) brings his sinewy style to counter the funk-metal stylings of lead guitarist ken house (h.p. riot). the precise drumming of paul olipant with wendell rand's muscular dance grooves keep the band tight while saxophonist, david boyce (broun fellinis) and trumpeter mike pitre (bohemian knuckle boogie) wail, their horns producing a sound that encompasses classic wailers, afrobeat and r&b. on top of all this, recent addition sandy house (wade love band) adds her sultry voice and powerful stage presence

sun, july 7, 2013, doors: 5:00 pm / show: 6:00 pm (event ends at 9:00 pm), 19 broadway, fairfax, ca. this event is 21 and over. led by 19broadway partner garry graham (who had to buy the club to get the gig) this could be the most entertaining 12 piece band you have seen. its not just about the music. its a place where fun abounds and old friends meet new friends. after every gig a gang of 25 plus gathers for dinner at a local restaurant. this gig is where music and fun collide. garry on piano is joined by his brother jerry spolter on guitar. the two of them sing a variety of songs and you can count on them to sing their mothers favorite songs, whether you like it or not. the band is formed around a quartet with john lewis on bass and alan schuman on drums. the band members are: alan schuman on drums, phil diamond on flute, jerry spolter on guitar, garry graham on piano, john lewis on bass, greg elberg on trumpet, dave bergman on pocket trumpet, henry gernsey on percussion, john hulverson on steel drum. unlike most bios who tout who everyone played with let me tell you these cats can just flat out play. both are old school and know where the bones are buried. the 19 broadway goodtime band is all about the band and the fans having fun together. come join us any 1st sunday of the month from 6-8pm. we guarantee a good time!
