MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – Honoring those who died while serving in the U.S. military go back to the Civil War, but 2019 marks just the 49th annual official national holiday.
Memorial Day was first officially recognized in 1971 – more than a century after the conclusion of the Civil War in 1865. The Civil War claimed more lives than any other American conflict.
