The Healing Sanctuary draws on the 5000 year old reservoir of knowledge that is traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). TCM is a complete medical system that utilizes many healing modalities including acupuncture and herbal medicine and is capable of addressing most health conditions particularly chronic disease and pain. This ancient healing practice is based on the concepts of balance between the two opposing forces of yin and yang as well as re-establishing the flow of vital energy (qi) in the body. An imbalance in these forces eventually leads to illness. In modern medical terms, acupuncture balances or modulates the nervous, circulatory and chemical systems in the body. TCM is very popular in Asia and Europe, and has benefited millions of Americans since the 1970s. At The Healing Sanctuary, our practitioners have over 20 years of combined experience in both TCM and conventional Western medicine thus enabling us to work closely with your other healthcare providers to assure you receive the most complete and effective care possible. At your initial visit to The Healing Sanctuary your practitioner will conduct a thorough health and lifestyle history as well as a physical exam to aid in developing the best treatment plan to fit your specific healthcare needs.
Herbal Consultation
The Healing Sanctuary also offers herbal consultations for those who would prefer not to include acupuncture in their care plan. Our practitioners are licensed by the State Board of California to determine the best herbal treatments for you while taking into consideration any medication or supplementation you may already be taking. As with acupuncture, the objective of herbal therapy is to balance the body's functions in order to promote wellness. The Healing Sanctuary uses only the highest quality herbal products.

David Servan-Schreiber, MD, author of Anti-Cancer: A New Way of Life, says that movement of the body is one of the 4 pillars of good health and therefore critical for disease prevention and wellness. At The Healing Sanctuary we understand that chronic pain and disease can make it difficult to exercise thus hindering our ability to heal. Unlike your typical gym or studio class, we have developed classes that are designed specifically to aid those suffering from chronic pain and illness. The classes are small, allowing for more personalized instruction and our instructors are all specially trained in therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation.
Alignment-based Yoga
Yoga is far more than a system of exercise. It offers wisdom and tools to facilitate union of the body and the mind with the spirit. Asana (physical postures) open and awaken the body so that you feel good living inside of it. Yoga, including asana and meditation, is an extremely effective way to bring your awareness and focus into your body and augment the healing processes. Practicing yoga is taking responsibility for your body and life, as our bodies are the most conscious matter we control. Dr. MacLennan has been practicing yoga since 2008 and has studied extensively with Aadil Palkhivala and Savitri since 2013. She is a graduate of the College of Purna Yoga at the 200 hour level and is registered with the Yoga Alliance as an RYT-200. She is currently completing her teacher training at the College of Purna Yoga at the 500 hour level.
