  • Class Descriptions

    • Foundational Yoga

You've heard so much about yoga. You know it's supposed to be great for you - make you fit, flexible, focused and obliterate stress. But you don't know where to start (or what it actually is). Or maybe you've done the videos, but you're not sure what you are doing is OK. At Rising Sun Yoga, we are your beginners' and beyond oasis. We'll guide you, step-by-step, as you discover this wonderful practice. A great way to continue your practice after you have immersed your self in the Intro to Yoga Course is with this simple and friendly class. Each class may cover: Simple breathing exercises that are common to our practice; Foundational yoga postures and how to adapt them to your abilities and needs; Meditation techniques to reduce stress; How to breathe so that you may link postures together and never feel out-of-breath. We repeat things a lot so you are sure to learn them. And, we also make time to teach you how to modify the postures to accommodate your body and its unique needs. We accommodate everyone...those who are new and have no experience, those with little experience, those who have not done yoga in a long time, those who want a refresher, and those who love working the foundational aspects. This is a Continuous Class (you can join in at any time).

    • Flow Yoga Open Level

In this class, we flow through poses with an emphasis on bringing the body into optimal alignment in order to enable an experience of transformation - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Classes allow you to experience the detailed alignment principles and heart-oriented spiritual philosophy taught in yoga. Students of all levels, abilities and yoga experience are honored for their unique differences, limitations, and talents although class participants should have at least one year of yoga and/or a strong yoga practice.

    • Wisdom Warriors

Wisdom Warriors is a fabulous new yoga class designed especially for dedicated practitioners over 50 who know what it means to remain youthful through the practice of yoga and other healthy lifestyle activities. Now don't get fooled when you hear 'over 50', as this class is for experienced practitioners who are adept at yoga. Wisdom Warriors is the perfect elixir of youth for anyone who wants to preserve their high level of health, flexibility and strength throughout their lifetime. It is intended to help people keep their practice strong and vital. We slow it down to keep it strong while continuing to put forth the effort to understand the changes in our bodies as we go. Rather than saying "I am too old for this", we ask "what needs to be adjusted, to get stronger, longer or softer so this pose feels right for me"? A full range of poses are always available including standing poses, backbends, hip openers, forward bends, inversions and arm balances. It is not suitable for beginners. Class is physically and spiritually inspiring, has a strong therapeutic focus, and aims to foster community among our 50+ yogis. If you have been practicing yoga for a while and long to connect with others who will help you stay healthy and fit, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to strengthen your body, mind and friendships. We believe that old dogs can learn new tricks, however with the wisdom that age inspires, our approach softens.

    • Prenatal / Postnatal Yoga

Designed to alleviate pregnancy related discomforts, prepare for birth, practice relaxation and breathing techniques in community with other women experiencing the physical and hormonal changes associated with pregnancy. For those who wish to bring their new baby, you are welcome to do so until the baby becomes mobile. Wearing the baby in a sling or wrap is recommended so that you can have your hands free. This class is VERY appropriate for beginners and current yoga practitioners of all skill levels with a strong focus on the connection between you and baby. We also focus deeply on the breath which is so vital during your delivery; to positions that facilitate an easier, more comfortable birth; loosening the muscles, joints & bones used during birth. We will address any fears, strains, or aches and pains of your pregnancy and reassure you of your body's innate ability to grace you with the miracle you are about to experience.
