About

  • The Importance of Training Your Dog

    • Sometimes what we expect and what we actually get are two different things, ESPECIALLY when a puppy or dog is brought into our homes.

    • We have visions of a loyal companion who is controllable, obedient, and who obeys on the first command.

We expect our dogs to be consistent, reliable and predictable. We see a friend to children and animals and one who will protect the family and property. We view him as an amiable traveler and a respecter of his home, with good house manners.

    • Unfortunately, what we too often get is a noisy fence jumper who digs holes in the garden.

We change our schedule to fit our pet's demands. We get an adorable little fellow who cannot be taken to visit or be allowed to entertain company because he is out of control. He destroys household furnishings and refuses to be housebroken. Later in life, he may become unpredictable with children and other dogs.

    • There are enough problems in daily living without the added stress created by an irritating or unpredictable dog.

Your dog's presence should be enjoyable as well as therapeutic--a link with nature and a means of communication outside the realm of humans.

    • This may seem like an unattainable ideal.

However, it is not only desirable and possible, it is necessary for the pleasant, constructive co-existence of a dog and his or her owner.

    • In the human world, a dog's survival often hinges on his ability to respond to a direct command.

This is sometimes not obtained without the help of specialized training. Proper training helps your dog make the adjustment to contemporary life.

  • The Psychology of Dog Training

    • Dog Psychology has revolutionized dog training.

A dog's behavior is not necessarily inborn. Rather, it is the result of forces of his environment. Behavior (both appropriate and inappropriate) is learned. If a dog learns to think and feel differently, he will act differently. Conversely, changes in thoughts and feelings can be affected by changing the way he acts.

    • The proper training of your dog or pup develops basic character and self-control.

This leads to self-confident, happy dogs and satisfied owners. With the development of the dog's self-control through training, future problems that are yet to develop seldom materialize.
