    Students will explore the underlying principles of drawing directly from observation, with a particularemphasis on searching for significant imagery that relies on the human presence as a source of meaning.

    The objective of the class is for each participant to develop a better understanding of the human headand torso within the context of modeled sculpture. This class will focus on the head and upper torso. Using clay, we shall employ observation to create anumber of sculptures.

    Students should be able to assess, through classroom drawing experience, which mediums and attitudesthey wish to add to their drawing practice.     The objective of the class is to help students to understand the structure of the human figure through direct observation and the conversion ofperceptual information into the "language of sculpture". What is sculpture? Is human body a sculpture? Does sculpture have structure?Is structure sculptural? Can we see structure? Does geometry help?Do we need anatomy?These and other questions are being addressed in this intensive workshop focused on furthering theunderstanding of ''sculptural idea'', using human forms with its sense of unity and connections of various parts, theirspatial arrangement, balance, proportions, weight relations and tensions.
