  • 21st Amendment Fireside Chat, ABV 7.9

    Fireside Chat hearkens back to the Golden Age of Radio when the Great Depression held the country in a pincer grip, and people longed for better times. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's fireside chats, which often began with the words, Good evening, friends, were hugely popular and his message was one of reassurance and hope. Fireside Chat is a subtle twist on the traditional seasonal brew. We begin with a rich, dark ruby brown, English-style ale and then improvise with spices until we know we have a beer worth sharing with the nation. During Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, Fireside Chat will brighten the faces of those who enjoy it, near the hearth or at the table. Its subtle blend of spices balances the malty ale and will make this a foodie's favorite, as it pairs perfectly with holiday meals.

  • Almanac IPA, ABV 7.5

    Introducing our year-round Almanac IPA, a West Coast hop bomb overflowing with hop flavors and aromas. We start with a copper-hued malt base of California-grown two-row barley, German Vienna Malt, Crystal Malts and Biscuit Malt. Then we start layering on the hopsgrown all along the west coast in California, Oregon and Washington. We combine Magnum, Chinook, Cascade, El Dorado and Simcoe to create our own unique twist on the IPA style with intense aromas of grapefruit and tangerine peel, pineapple and pine trees. The finish has a clean bitterness and light saltine cracker note.

  • Anchor Christmas Ale 2015, ABV 5.5

    This is the forty-first annual Christmas Ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to midJanuary. The Ale's recipe is different every yearas is the tree on the labelbut the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew. Our tree for 2015 is the Deodar Cedar (Cedrus deodara), better known as the California Christmas Tree. Native of the Himalayas, it takes its name from the ancient Sanskrit devadaru, meaning timber of the gods. This coniferous evergreen, with its gracefully droopy branches and blue-green needles, has been a San Francisco favorite for over 150 years. The annual search for the perfect tree for our Christmas Ale label usually takes us far afield. This one began and ended with the search for a parking space near the Brewery! Getting out of the car, we couldn't help but notice the way the late-afternoon sun danced amid the branches of two lovely Deodars just half a block from Anchor's front door. Our longtime label artist Jim Stitt-who has been drawing trees for us since 1975loved "our" Deodars and, like us, was amused that they were about as local as local gets! His charming illustration evokes the radiant beauty of our arboreal neighbors as well as the spirit of the season. Cheers from the Anchor brewers!

    A nice caramel, biscuit and crushed grain aroma with some earthy hop in the background. Caramel and grain flavor with a lager sweetness to it. I was surprised that the earthy hop showed through as much as it did. It provides a nice flavor and a little bitterness in the finish to balance out the sweetness.

    This special holiday porter is made for winter - rich and warming, the way they like it at the North Pole. It was inspired by this famous line from a well-loved children's storybook: "And Santa sat on his great butt, enjoying a hardy brew" In case you find that amusing, the brewer hastens to point out that in England, "butt" refers to a certain sized barrel, in fact, holding 108 Imperial gallons. Back in the day it was quite a normal thing for a brewery to put its beer up in a large butt for storage. Still snickering, eh? Get your mind out of the gutter, or Santa will be skipping your house entirely this year.

The pumpkins are picked, loaded into Rogue's farm truck, driven immediately 77 miles to our brewery in Newport, quickly roasted, and pitched into the brew kettle to create a batch of Pumpkin Patch Ale.

    With its amber-mahogany coloring and streaked with fine top-fermented yeast, this beer has a fine, persistent head that adheres well to the glass.   • Uinta Wet'n Wyld, ABV 4.0

    Two weeks ago the guys at Uinta decided to try something new, take one batch of Wyld Extra Pale and do a special, one of a kind edition. For this special edition Uinta acquired a shload of fresh Simcoe hops, enough to average 4lbs of hops per barrel of beer ( 1 beer barrel = 31 gallons). The result, we hope is one citrusy, resinous and sessionable sombitch! The "wet" in Wet n' Wyld refers to the state of the hops. Most hops are dried to eliminate weight and spoilage, these are fresh off the vine, wet as nature made them. Wet n' Wyld is draft only (no bottles) and will be available at the breweries pub and those pubs and bars that tend to give a shit about good local beer.

  • Coniston's Bluebird Bitter, ABV 4.2

    Bluebird is a fine session ale with a light golden colour. The intense resinous and spicy hop character which is the beer's hallmark is derived from the use of unusual quantities of English Challenger hops, each bale being individually and personally selected by the brewer. The malt is, of course, Maris Otter fermented slightly warm to give a soft fruitiness with a faint hint of scented geranium.

    The name Sixty-One is a reminder that this beer is Dogfish Head's best-selling 60 Minute IPA plus one new ingredient: syrah grape must from California. The label, painted by Sam, is a twist on a typical watercolor. Rather than using water, Sam mixed the green pigment with beer and the red pigment with wine. And because Sixty-One pairs so well with chocolate, he painted the browns on the label with melted chocolate.

    Old Engine Oil is a near-black brew with a silky-smooth rummy aroma, a coffee-ish palate, and a suggestion of the darkest chocolate. It is made from pale malt, roasted barley and malted oats. Old Engine Oil is well-hopped with the sweetish variety Galena from Washington State, Worchester Fuggles and East Kent Golgings.The PG (present gravity) of Old Engine Oil is unusually high. This is because Ken Brooker wanted to produce a beer that had the character of a barley wine, i.e. high PG, lots of mouthfeel and high viscosity but with only6 % ABV, rather than the more normal barley wine ABV of about 8.5 %.He has used a high mash temperature to give the required wort profile. The trick is to balance this sweetness with the hop bitterness and acrid flavors from the Roast Barley.
