Lehmann Mansion

• Our Exciting History

  • As the son of a German immigrant, Edward John Lehmann grew up with his family in Lake Villa, IL.

    As a boy, Edward watched his father help to build the town they lived in with his jewelry store, which grew to include men and women's clothes and hats.

  • In the summer of 1912,

    Edward Lehmann built the Lehmann mansion as a summer home for his family, where the family enjoyed many years until it was purchased by the Village of Lake Villa in 2001. Shortly after Bauer's Catering became the exclusive caterer.

  • Today Bauer's Catering still uphold the same values and sense of family that the Lehmann family became known for.

    We take extra care in making sure that every event is perfect from start to finish.

• Rich in history

  • Located in Vernon Hills, Ill., Loyola at Cuneo Mansion and Gardens is home to the Cuneo family collection of fine art and furnishings, set in a beautiful 100-acre estate.

  • Construction on Cuneo Mansion and Gardens began in 1914 and was completed in 1916 as the home of Samuel Insull,

    an original founder of the General Electric Company, and designed by Chicago architect Benjamin Marshall in the Italianate style. Its gardens and landscaping were designed by world-renowned landscape architect Jens Jensen. In 1937, John Cuneo Sr. bought the home and lived there with his wife, Julia, and two children, John Jr. and Consuela. John Sr. owned and operated Hawthorn Mellody Farms Dairy, the National Tea Company, and the Cuneo Press.

  • In 2009, the Cuneo Foundation, the family foundation of John Cuneo Jr. and his wife, Herta, gave the estate to Loyola University Chicago.

    The $50 million gift, the largest in Loyola's history, included the museum's extensive collection of art and furnishings.

  • Since receiving the estate, Loyola has completed a number of renovations and added a meeting and event pavilion for courses and special events.

    Loyola will continue its investment in the mansion.

  • Bauer's Catering can trace its roots back 50 years to Grayslake, Illinois where Eddie Bauer Sr. owned and operated Parkway Grocery.

    With the help of their family and a lot of hard work they were able to grow and expanded their business throughout Lake County. Eddie Sr. was the first to introduce deli catering to the area.

  • Eddie Bauer Jr. followed in his father's footsteps

    Developing such successful businesses as Party Masters Catering in Lake Forest, IL, Bauer's Red Rose at Renwood Country Club, Bauer's on the Bay in Lake Villa, IL, and Bauer's Bistro in Grayslake, IL. Over the years, Eddie Sr. and Jr. developed their skills and passions for food service. Then, father and son decided to focus on what they really love - catering! In 1996, they joined forces and opened Bauer's Party Masters Catering in Libertyville, IL.

  • Eddie Jr. now operates the Libertyville location with his wife Mary and they are continuing the growth and innovation that Eddie's parents

    Started by expanding the home office to offer delicious take-out deli foods. Working with the village of Lake Villa, they have been instrumental in the renovation of the Lehmann Mansion, turning it into one of Lake County's hottest event sites. Situated on 70 acres, this fantastic, historical building has been updated to include ADA accessible restrooms, new party rooms and a 3-season tent for larger events.

  • Today, Bauer's catering is a tight-knit family-owned operation, enjoying a reputation of quality food and a can-do, cheerful attitude!
