Kohelet Yeshiva Opens Doors to K-8 and a Future for Innovation
It’s not every day that a high school is excited to introduce elementary- and middle-school students to its halls. Check Out What's Happening at Temple Beth-El!
One of the very best parts of my work on your behalf is managing and coordinating the many High Holy Day projects and seeing all of you at services. Many of you volunteer your time and hard work with passion and devotion for what you do for the congregation Our community benefits enormously from the efforts of volunteers! Every day, members of the congregation step forward to help. In big ways and in small ways they give their time, ideas and efforts. I wanted to personally thank our High Holy Day Volunteers. So many contribute their time and energy to make our services run smoothly and are spiritual for all. A big thanks to my administrative staff for stepping up and pitching in when we were short staffed. This year demonstrated the true…

Rabbi Yonatan Dahlen: When Your City Speaks
I’ll be the first to admit it. I’ve had a complicated relationship with Detroit. Perhaps five years in New York has turned me into an urban elitist, a city snob. When Meredith and I head into Detroit for brunch or a show, I often catch myself starting sentences with the words, “You know, in New York…” (which she, shockingly, does not find all that endearing) I’ve had a hard time adjusting to the “Detroit vs. Everybody” mentality, and I usually draw a blank when I’m asked what my “hustles” are (evidently in Detroit, one is expected to have at least two). And despite my best efforts, I cannot get myself to refer to this towering city of American success, failure, and perseverance as “The D.” I am (and I’m not trying to be…

What Is Messianic Judaism?
Messianic Judaism is the name given to New Covenant faith in Yeshua (Jesus) as Messiah by those who are of Jewish heritage. It also invites into fellowship Gentiles who are called to embrace an expression of faith in Yeshua in a Jewish communal context. One of the most disconcerting things about the separation that has grown between Christianity and Judaism is the belief by Jewish people that Jesus contradicts and opposes Judaism. On the contrary, Yeshua Himself was Jewish, as were most of His first followers and disciples.
