Codex Flim-Flam Exposed at Recent Meeting

The 42nd session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission was held the week of July 8-12, 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland and one of the most important items to be debated on its agenda was the adoption of several Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for toxic pesticides. But equally important was the defeat of an attempt to create a new procedural maneuver called “scientific consensus” to allow the Codex science officer (JECFA Secretariat) to dictate when the Commission or any committee has reached agreement on adopting a food standard.
