However, that's not to say his connection to these historical methods of percussion is without a hard and fast contemporariness. Light, empathetic and constantly inventive, his insistent jabs and fluid time provided an arresting carpet for (the) clambering interplay. -Clifford Allen Bonnie's work explores the fluidity and function of electronic noise (field recordings, circuit bending) and text (poetry, found, spoken, visual). Her art seeks opportunities within different mediums to expose the fluid nature of individual identity, history, form, and meaning. As an arts organizer, Bonnie was a founding member of the Transmodern Festival and CHELA Gallery and is currently a member of the High Zero Festival collective. In 2010, she co-founded TECHNE https://technesound.org/, an organization that introduces young female-identified women to technology-focused art making, improvisation, and community collaboration. TECHNE's programs are delivered through partnerships with grassroots organizations that share an aligned commitment to racial and gender equity. Bonnie received her MFA at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College. She has received commissions from the London ICA and Walters Art Museum and has presented her work extensively at institutions in the US, Mexico, Europe and Asia, including the LA MOCA, Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, and REDCAT. Her collaborative sound works have been shown at the Swiss Institute, Whitney Museum, and Hunter College. Bonnie was a 2018 recipient of the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award. The Jellies: The Jellies is the Chicago-based project of songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jenn Romero. Officially starting in 2014, Jenn has called upon various lineups of friends (most often fellow songmakers) to bring her songs to life. With a history of creating music for film and theater, her compositions have an evocative, cinematic quality, with her crystal voice always at the center. The most recent set of Jellies songs is the most personal yet; intimate, raucous, gritty, punchy, and devastating. "Bluebeard" is an honest exploration of what it means to give and receive love in the intersectional space of social conditioning-namely the moments of yearning and desire to be seen and heard that are challenged by the ways we are taught to not see or hear one another. http://thejellieschicago.bandcamp.com/. Circument: A cerebral and solo electronics project of Cy Tulip. Sara Barron: Based in Detroit, Michigan, Sara Marie Barron draws inspiration from the past and current sounds of Motown while infusing a modern take on love and heartbreak. Born and raised just outside of the city, Sara's deep love of Motown, soul and jazz is evidenced through her gritty vocal delivery, hooky melodies, and timeless arrangements. http://www.saramariebarron.com/.

When: Thursday, 12 July at 08:00 PM - 11:00 PM; Hosted by Trixie's Bar and 3 others; Hit Bargain, The Free Bleeders, Jonathan Franco: Neue Haus Presents Video Age Career Club Zachary Morris Fealk. 8pm doors, 9pm music. Video Age: On Video Age's forthcoming album Pop Therapy, out June 15 via Inflated Records, longtime friends and songwriting partners Ross Farbe and Ray Micarelli conjure up a thrilling collection of futuristic pop songs. Using a palette of vintage synthesizers and the propulsion of a Sequential Circuits Drumtraks drum machine, the New Orleans-based group's buoyant synth-pop echoes from some imagined vision of the past, leaning on an invented nostalgia to soundtrack an ideal future that never arrived. Video Age brings that future fully to life on Pop Therapy. Emerging from New Orleans' DIY scene and label collectives, Farbe and Micarelli were intrigued by each other's songwriting among several curiously satisfying guitar pop bands. As a producer and prolific engineer, Farbe has helmed some of the most exciting releases from genre-pushing New Orleans artists, whose singular visions are made possible with his gifted ear and love of tape recording. Micarelli's talent for crafting simple, tangible melodies complements Farbe's studio world-building, letting ideas drift until they emerge into impressive arrangements. The pair's seemingly effortless gift for crafting earworm hooks was glimpsed on their 2016 debut Living Alone, a gorgeous collection of guitar-driven melancholy. On Pop Therapy, they're joined by Duncan Troast, Nick Corson and Jordan Odom, taking inspiration from the limitless possibility on sonic canvases from the late 1970s and early 1980s (Yellow Magic Orchestra, McCartney II, Donald Fagen's The Nightfly). Where Living Alone catalogued the solitude of reflecting on what was and could have been, the sentimental love songs on Pop Therapy gaze longingly at the likeliness of a brighter tomorrow. https://videoage.bandcamp.com/. When: 20 July at 08:00 PM to 21 July at 12:00 AM; Hosted by Trixie's Bar and 2 others; Details: Neue Haus Presents Lonely Parade, GIRL FIGHT, Emily Roll. 8pm doors, 9pm music. Lonely Parade: Lonely Parade is a three piece post-punk band of childhood friends based in Montréal, QC. Augusta, Anwyn and Charlotte played their first show in 2012, and started touring before all the members of the band were of age. While still quite young in years, the songs they write prove a compatibility beyond years. Their most recent album "No Shade" was released through their own tape label Sleepwalk Tapes in September 2016. Drawing from feelings of discomfort, yearning, and a newfound sense of self awareness, each song is a rollercoaster of sounds and emotions. http://thelonelyparade.com/. Girl Fight: Feminist two piece garage filth. https://girlfightdetroit.bandcamp.com/releases. Emily Roll: Performance artist Emily Roll got her start as a theater actor and later branched out into more experimental original work. Beginning in 2012, she launched her "Haunted" moniker as a vehicle to explore anxiety, vulnerability, and transparency. These otherworldly pieces were realized in combinations of written, vocal, physical or verbal forms, and often took place in dive bars and DIY spaces among rock bands and noise acts. From these sometimes unhinged beginnings, Emily has crafted a nuanced language with her performance pieces, constantly evolving as they reach a more naked level of connectivity".
