Bonnie Jones//Ben Hall

When: May 30 at 9:00 PM to May 31 at 12:00 AM; Hosted by Trixie's Bar; Details: Ben Hall b. 1977 Detroit Hall studied West African percussion with Jumma Santos and trapset and precognition with Milford Graves at Bennington College in Vermont where he also worked with Bill Dixon with whom he made his last small group recordings. As a founding member of 1/4 speed jazz unit Graveyards with John Olson of Wolf Eyes he produced over 90 recordings on all media across 30 different labels. Graveyards worked in numerous formats regularly collaborating with Faruq Z. Bey, C. Spencer Yeh, Nate Wooley, and Greg Kelley and performed at the No Fun Festival, Fimav––Victoriaville, Open Circuit, and Michigan Progressive Underground. Hall's current working groups include: New Monuments (with Don Dietrich (Borbetomagus) and C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core)), Nate Wooley's large ensemble Seven Storey Mountain, and Joe Morris' Raven Trio (with Andria Nicodemou.) Hall has recorded for Important, Troubleman Unlimited, Arbor, American Tapes, Bocian, WhatThe?, The Pleasure of the Text and performed at Fimav––Victoriaville, Moers Jazz Festival, Montreal Detroit Jazz Fest, and Lincoln Center in collaboration with Jeremy Couilliard. if anyone were to carry the torch of early John Stevens and New York Art Quartet-era Milford Graves, it would be this drummer. However, that's not to say his connection to these historical methods of percussion is without a hard and fast contemporariness. Light, empathetic and constantly inventive, his insistent jabs and fluid time provided an arresting carpet for (the) clambering interplay. -Clifford Allen Bonnie's work explores the fluidity and function of electronic noise (field recordings, circuit bending) and text (poetry, found, spoken, visual). Her art seeks opportunities within different mediums to expose the fluid nature of individual identity, history, form, and meaning. As an arts organizer, Bonnie was a founding member of the Transmodern Festival and CHELA Gallery and is currently a member of the High Zero Festival collective. In 2010, she co-founded TECHNE https://technesound.org/, an organization that introduces young female-identified women to technology-focused art making, improvisation, and community collaboration. TECHNE's programs are delivered through partnerships with grassroots organizations that share an aligned commitment to racial and gender equity. Bonnie received her MFA at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College. She has received commissions from the London ICA and Walters Art Museum and has presented her work extensively at institutions in the US, Mexico, Europe and Asia, including the LA MOCA, Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, and REDCAT. Her collaborative sound works have been shown at the Swiss Institute, Whitney Museum, and Hunter College. Bonnie was a 2018 recipient of the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award. Born in 1977 in South Korea she was raised on a dairy farm in New Jersey, and currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland. https://bonnie-jones.com/ https://technesound.org.
